Bio
Hi! I am Kristy Matthews. I have over 24 years of dedicated teaching experience. I am a passionate advocate for student growth and academic excellence. I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 4th grade, fostering engaging and inclusive classrooms that support every learner’s success.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in education from Georgia Southwestern State University and pursued a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction through both Thomas University and Georgia Southern University. My professional certifications include Special Education, Gifted and Talented Education (GTE), Teachers as Mentors, and Early Childhood Education. I am also a proud graduate of the Houston County Teacher Leadership Academy (April 2025), a program that strengthened my commitment to ongoing professional growth and collaborative school culture.
Throughout my career, I’ve been honored with several recognitions, including being named Teacher of the Year for the 2025–2026 school year and receiving the 13 WMAZ “My Teacher is Tops” award.
Beyond the classroom, I’m a wife and proud mother to three amazing children, ages 16, 12, and 5. I’m deeply passionate about reading and absolutely love teaching children how to read and develop a lifelong love for literacy. I’m equally excited about teaching math and witnessing the joy that comes with newfound understanding.
Personally, I enjoy coffee, Diet Coke, Chick-fil-A, online shopping, Target runs, and all things Disney. Cruising the world, reading, and traveling are some of my favorite ways to unwind and stay inspired.
